Purpose

The Environmental Worker Safety (EWS) Committee shall assist IDFA in fulfilling its responsibilities with respect to EWS matters affecting IDFA members companies.

Key Responsibilities

Specifically, the EWS Committee shall be charged with:

  1. Making recommendations regarding technical and scientific regulatory matters pertaining to federal environmental (EPA) and worker safety (OSHA) regulations and laws that are vital to the direction and success of the dairy industry;
  2. Review proposed and suggest newsustainability goals, metrics, and elements for dairy processor included in the Stewardship and Sustainability Framework for U.S. Dairy and dairy processor handbook;
  3. Advise IDFA regarding opportunities to advance the visibility and importance of workplace safety and environmental matters in the dairy industry;
  4. Identify and communicate EWS “best practices” employed by IDFA members, particularly those that advance the status of EWS risk management, EPA and OSHA compliance matters.

Nominations and Governance

  1. Conducting periodic assessments of the EWS Committee regarding performance and overall effectiveness;
  2. Identify, screen and interview potential candidates for EWS Committee leadership (“leaders”) who are judged to fill those needs and meet the criteria for appointment to the committee;
  3. Coordinate the orientation and training process for newly appointed EWS leaders
  4. Report to the IDFA Boards on committee activities.

Composition and Terms

The EWS Committee shall be comprised of two (2) members appointed by IDFA’s Director of Regulatory Affairs & Counsel to serve as Chair and Vice Chair, both roles are a two year appointment.  In the event the Chair cannot fulfill the entire two year period the Vice Chair shall succeed to the Chair position and the Director of Regulatory Affairs & Counsel shall appoint a new Vice Chair.

Meetings

The Committee shall hold one face-to-face meeting at least once each year, with additional teleconference meetings held at least two (2) times each year. Meetings are to be facilitated by the EWS Committee Chair.

 Authorization and Limitations

The EWS Committee is established by IDFA and shall not have power or authority to act or make decisions for IDFA. Meetings and actions of the EWS Committee are governed by the same provisions of the IDFA operating rules as an organization that pertain to meetings of the IDFA Board including IDFA’s antitrust policy.
