WASHINGTON, Feb. 20, 2024 – IDFA provided written comments to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on the proposed 2024-2025 National School Foods Study. The comments outlined why a new study remains important to understanding the implementation and use of the school meal programs, including the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program. The comments note that this research is important to collect vital information that can be used to inform program administration and meal patterns to best meet the needs of students and school food authorities.

IDFA supports the proposed collection of data to ensure that these programs meet the needs of students, their families and school food authorities and looks forward to reviewing the new data from this study in efforts to increase school meal participation and consumption of nutrient-rich options, particularly for under consumed food groups, like dairy.
